Along with FLING, GEM & GENT this title is one of the fab 4 of classic boob mags. The first issue was dated May, 1968 and followed a bimonthly publication schedule - 6 issues/year (and for numbering purposes 6 issues/volume). That lasted for all of 2 issues, as what would have been the 3rd issue (Sept) was delayed until October. From that point on publication resumed the bimonthly schedule on the even months through August of 1971 (v4 #2). The next issue (v4 #3) was dated 11/71 and then another gap of 3 months until v4 #4 dated Feb, 1972 appeared. The next 3 issues (thru v5 #1, dated 8/72) were on schedule but what would have been the October issue was delayed until November. That began a run of 6 issues on the odd numbered months through 9/73 (v6 #1). Again, a month was skipped and v6 #2 was dated 12/73 but that started a 5 year streak of bimonthly issues on the even numbered months that continued until October of 1978 (v11 #1). The Dec. 1978 issue apparently was skipped and publication moved to the odd numbered months beginning with the issue of 1/79. No other changes occurred until the middle of 1984 however, there is one unusual twist to the numbering system. The Jan. 1979 issue is v11 #2 and that makes the Sept. '79 issue v11 #6. Following the odd numbered months, V12 #1 would be 11/79 and so on, however, the issue of 3/80 is v12 #4 rather than #3 as it should be, so somewhere in that sequence a number was skipped. Not too unusual considering the many changes in the publication schedule itself.

Originally titled THE SWINGER back in 1968, that title was retained until the end of 1974 when the word BUF (an acronym for Big Up Front) was added to the title as a prefix. The last issue to bear that name was dated March, 1979 and beginning with the next issue, dated May, 1979, the title was reduced to simply BUF and continued as such until the mid 90s.
